Now, this is a really funny topic BUT when you
consider it, you will find out that it is a really
tough set of questions.

Let's start...

You are in a eatery in down-town Lagos, you
meet a great chick and suddenly are put in a
situation where you are to explain how you make
your money...

How do you explain what you do?

Okay.. maybe that scenario was too easy. Try this.

You are about to pay for a new apartment, you have
your cash because you make good money online BUT
the landlord is asking for what you do?

How do you explain?

Maybe.. that one was not so difficult. What of this?

You get to the bank and they want to know what
you do to have such a busy bank account statement.

What do you tell them?

Oya... make una talk o....

Because I am sure you've been in this situation or
similar ones quite a number of times. How did you
handle it?

well firstly, i will like to ask Fisayo, how have you been EXplaining and Explaining plz?
my own contribution is that you don't need to explain anything, if i am been confronted by the situations mentioned above.
i will just boldly and proudly tell them what i do. after all it's not YAHOO YAHOO! show them the results, eg pay slips and
checks etc.i think they should be convince that people are really making real money from the internet. SHIKENO. BYE

A teacher will simply say "I am a teacher" and
no further questions.

A lawyer will say "I am a lawyer" and no further
questions.

A farmer, the same thing, an Engineer, will say
follow a similar pattern BUT in your case you
will sit down and explain, explain and explain...

Then you will run home to bring pay checks,
and do even more gymnastics?

I am sure the girl must have walked off with
a lawyer, even a farmer who can explain in
simple words before you return 

Common.. there has to be a better way to
explain yourself without breaking a sweat!

Hmmmm!

This a very tough question, a very interesting one though. Those are really hard situations to find oneself, especially in this our own kind of country. I believe we are not the first set of people to get into this kind of situation anyway; would any of the professional FOOTBALLERS of our time have been able/proud to introduced themselves as FOOTBALLERS some ages back? Oh! Yes, I know internet money making is a bit harder.

Alright, if I got into such situation; for me it's simple I'll just get some nice internet biz jargon that sounds meaningful but a bit unporpular.........how about "Internet Marketing Freelancer"....lol   Now! That will stimulate some interest and desire to wanting to know what "Internet Marketing Freelancer" is all about "because I'm sure most people probably never heard of a professional like that" and with this, executing @cashitnow's strategy will be so easy

in my office this question comes up from time to time and my manager once ask me why do i spent so much time and money on internet at home even when i can use the one in the office.It was difficult initially to explain but i later got a simple way of saying what i do. I WILL SAY I DO ONLINE MARKETING and when the probe further i now have the opportunity to have convert because after my explanation the person will not stop asking for more.

I think it's time for us to stand up for what we do. The awareness is now gaining ground that it is possible to earn a decent living online in Nigeria and that not everyone who spends considerable time online is a scammer.
If you have a product( your own or affiliate) that you market, see the person asking the question as a potential customer and switch to your marketing mode (when asnwering the question) and make your sales pitch.
I believe 2 things will happen either you win him or her over or you silence them forever.For the banks and probably law enforcement- you have your cheque photocopies, emails etc which you can present as evidence of earnings.
Simple to me.

Saying that you are an Internet Marketing Expert
doesn't help. I have tried it several times..

Having a product and trying to sell it to a bum on the
street after saying you do online stuff is a stunt
that will simply drive you nuts.

Come to think of it... what affiliate product do you
want to sell to your landlord?

Well.. saying that you do Online Marketing might be
work a little because people will just assume..  OK.. so you
are a marketer.

...BUT your trouble begins again when they ask you
What Do You Market?

People, we never solve this yawa at all. Let's come up
with better ideas.

Well, i just came into this forum few hours ago but not withstanding, I'll do my own contribution too.
To be very frank,this question can go a long way to tell on a relationship ( whether about to start or already in existence) especially when the guy in question really makes it big from a legitimate internet biz and his girl friend is this type that lacks understanding.

If i happen to be in this shoe i think i wouldn't need to panic. All I'll do is to look for every concrete evidence i can lay my hands on that will really prove to her that what i do online is legitimate and if possible even take her to the net and show her how i transact my business online.
